    Software for Tracking Costs of Mars Projects

    The Mars Cost Tracking Model is a computer program that administers a system set up for tracking the costs of future NASA projects that pertain to Mars. Previously, no such tracking system existed, and documentation was written in a variety of formats and scattered in various places. It was difficult to justify costs or even track the history of costs of a spacecraft mission to Mars. The present software enables users to maintain all cost-model definitions, documentation, and justifications of cost estimates in one computer system that is accessible via the Internet. The software provides sign-off safeguards to ensure the reliability of information entered into the system. This system may eventually be used to track the costs of projects other than only those that pertain to Mars

    VeriSFQ - A Semi-formal Verification Framework and Benchmark for Single Flux Quantum Technology

    In this paper, we propose a semi-formal verification framework for single-flux quantum (SFQ) circuits called VeriSFQ, using the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) standard. The considered SFQ technology is superconducting digital electronic devices that operate at cryogenic temperatures with active circuit elements called the Josephson junction, which operate at high switching speeds and low switching energy - allowing SFQ circuits to operate at frequencies over 300 gigahertz. Due to key differences between SFQ and CMOS logic, verification techniques for the former are not as advanced as the latter. Thus, it is crucial to develop efficient verification techniques as the complexity of SFQ circuits scales. The VeriSFQ framework focuses on verifying the key circuit and gate-level properties of SFQ logic: fanout, gate-level pipeline, path balancing, and input-to-output latency. The combinational circuits considered in analyzing the performance of VeriSFQ are: Kogge-Stone adders (KSA), array multipliers, integer dividers, and select ISCAS'85 combinational benchmark circuits. Methods of introducing bugs into SFQ circuit designs for verification detection were experimented with - including stuck-at faults, fanout errors, unbalanced paths, and functional bugs like incorrect logic gates. In addition, we propose an SFQ verification benchmark consisting of combinational SFQ circuits that exemplify SFQ logic properties and present the performance of the VeriSFQ framework on these benchmark circuits.     The Determinant of Sarawak Black Pepper Price

    This study’s objective is to analyse the Sarawak black pepper price determinants. This study used secondary data which was from 1985 to 2019. The dependent variable used for the analysis is black pepper price. In contrast, the independent variables are pepper production, white pepper price, inflation rate, and official exchange rate (LCU per $US). To achieve the objective of this study, several tests, such as the unit root test, including the Augmented DickyFuller (ADF) test and Phillips-Perron (PP) test, Johansen and Juselius Cointegration test, Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), and VECM Granger causality are employed. The result shows that white pepper prices have a negative relationship with black pepper prices. Meanwhile, the production of pepper, inflation rates, and official exchange rates have a positive relationship with black pepper prices. However, the inflation rate and the official exchange rate are not significant in determining the black pepper price. Only white pepper price will granger cause black pepper price in the short run

    Expression of HES and HEY genes in infantile hemangiomas

    Background: Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) are the most common benign tumor of infancy, yet their pathogenesis is poorly understood. IHs are believed to originate from a progenitor cell, the hemangioma stem cell (HemSC). Recent studies by our group showed that NOTCH proteins and NOTCH ligands are expressed in hemangiomas, indicating Notch signaling may be active in IHs. We sought to investigate downstream activation of Notch signaling in hemangioma cells by evaluating the expression of the basic HLH family proteins, HES/HEY, in IHs. Materials and Methods: HemSCs and hemangioma endothelial cells (HemECs) are isolated from freshly resected hemangioma specimens. Quantitative RT-PCR was performed to probe for relative gene transcript levels (normalized to beta-actin). Immunofluorescence was performed to evaluate protein expression. Co-localization studies were performed with CD31 (endothelial cells) and NOTCH3 (peri-vascular, non-endothelial cells). HemSCs were treated with the gamma secretase inhibitor (GSI) Compound E, and gene transcript levels were quantified with real-time PCR. Results: HEY1, HEYL, and HES1 are highly expressed in HemSCs, while HEY2 is highly expressed in HemECs. Protein expression evaluation by immunofluorescence confirms that HEY2 is expressed by HemECs (CD31+ cells), while HEY1, HEYL, and HES1 are more widely expressed and mostly expressed by perivascular cells of hemangiomas. Inhibition of Notch signaling by addition of GSI resulted in down-regulation of HES/HEY genes. Conclusions: HES/HEY genes are expressed in IHs in cell type specific patterns; HEY2 is expressed in HemECs and HEY1, HEYL, HES1 are expressed in HemSCs. This pattern suggests that HEY/HES genes act downstream of Notch receptors that function in distinct cell types of IHs. HES/HEY gene transcripts are decreased with the addition of a gamma-secretase inhibitor, Compound E, demonstrating that Notch signaling is active in infantile hemangioma cells
